The Theater District Station, a part of the Tacoma Link Light Rail is just three blocks away and is a 1.6-mile light rail line ending at Tacoma Dome Station and is free to ride. The city of Tacoma is proudly currently working on an expansion plan with construction finalizing in 2022. This project will more than double the current length and will reach new destinations like the Old City Hall, the Stadium District, Wright Park and the Hilltop communities. There’s no shortage of places to wine and dine at in this area. Black Kettle Bites & Brew takes about a minute to walk to. They have hot coffee and cold beer, plus breakfast burritos, granola and yogurt bowls, really good panini sandwiches, salads and yummy little snacks. It’s a great place to go if you need a quick bite to eat and to get some work done.
You’ll be high in the sky after eating at Over the Moon Cafe, another short walk. It’s a family boutique-style restaurant, that brings you a warm, welcoming dining experience, a fab place for lunch or dinner and is highly rated. Doesn’t braised short rib ragu, slow cooked with red wine, carrot, celery, garlic an onion and served over rigatoni sound divine? Whatever dish you get, just save room for one of their heavenly desserts!
Craving a delicious, cheesy late night pizza that you can walk to? Puget Sound Pizza is just a couple blocks away. Get it to go or dine in. You probably won’t want to get it to go after you see how entertaining the local karaoke crew is. Follow them on Facebook to keep tabs on current pie specials.
Now you must be into cheesy things to dine at this next place – STINK Cheese-Meat and El Tufo Wine Bar is across the street and it’s the go-to place for cheese lovers. This cafe serves meats, cheeses & creative sandwiches with an adjacent wine bar and offers Spanish tapas. I recommend the 5 cheese plate and the meat plate, because you can never have enough of those two things. It’s creamy with a little sweetness and savory accompanied with a little brininess. Cleanse your palate with one of their many Spanish wines.
Take a walk to everyone’s favorite sweet treat spot in town, Corina Bakery – they make artisan desserts and savories from scratch; from cookies to quiches to custom baked cakes. They also offer an extensive menu for folks with dietary restrictions. Their vegetable quiche is so light, full of fresh veggies and roasted garlic. Their buttercream frosting on top of any of their cakes will make you break your diet. I highly recommend them for all your cake making needs, as they continue to prove based on the photos on their Instagram account that there isn’t any design they can’t do, plus the inside of the cake is always going to my yummy!
From live theater, to independent and foreign films, to up and coming comedy acts, there are diverse entertainment options all within 5 minutes of your home! The Grand Cinema is next door to Corina Bakery. Discover first-run independent and foreign films playing in downtown Tacoma at this nonprofit, volunteer supported cinema. They feature local products in concessions and are open 365 days a year thanks to the dedicated volunteers and members. It’s the place to go when you’re checking off your Oscars ballot.
